Youth Improvement Services is a nonprofit agency that uses a web-based service model to provide assistance to at-risk youth and other disadvantaged individuals in need of services to help them become employable and to live independently.

Deroll Barrett (Workforce Development Professional)

Executive Director

Mr. Barrett is the Founder and Executive Director of Youth Improvement Services. He has over 15 years of experience working with youth in educational, residential and community settings. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of the West Indies. Deroll uses this combination of education, experience and skills to provide high-quality services to program participants and stakeholders.

Tamara Vickers (Administrative Professional)

Board Chair 

Ms. Vickers has been a legal administrative professional for the past 10 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of the West Indies. She has volunteered extensively with organizations that support youth development and also worked in the federally-funded Job Corps program.

TeAndra Walton (Business Owner)


Ms. Walton is a seasoned accounting and tax professional who previously worked with the Mississippi Department of Revenue as an Auditor and Accountant. She is currently the owner of a tax and accounting business and is the Director of Operations for a medical practice. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Jackson State University. Her extensive experience in accounting, internal controls, bookkeeping and auditing assists us to keep our organization fully compliant with laws, regulations and ordinances.


Othneal Wilson (Education Management Professional)


Mr. Wilson has been an educator for the past 18 years and is currently a director in the federally funded Job Corps Program. Mr. Wilson is a subject mater expert in youth development and program management. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Education Degree from the University of the West Indies. He is strongly committed to empowering at-risk youth.

Andrew Breland  (Licensed Professional Counselor)

Board Member

Mr. Breland is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater and a Master of Science in Counselor Education (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) from William Carey University. Andrew is passionate about working with at-risk youth and has extensive experience working with historically excluded populations. He uses his knowledge, professional experience and community connections to help move the organization forward.
