Who we are
Youth Improvement Services, Inc. is a nonprofit agency that provides assistance to at-risk youth and other disadvantaged individuals in need of services to help them become employable and to live independently.
Deroll Barrett (Workforce Development Professional)
Mr. Barrett is the Founder and Executive Director of Youth Improvement Services. He has over 15 years of experience working with youth in educational, residential and community settings. He has used his leadership skills to develop and lead teams for the past 7 years, in providing social development programs to youth. These highly effective programs have catered to up to 400 youth at a time. Deroll is experienced in leading operations for dormitories, recreation centers, student leadership programs, a child development center and a Solo Parent program. He has managed a budget of $2 million per year in a federally funded program for at-risk youth. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of the West Indies. Deroll uses this combination of education, experience and skills to provide high-quality services to program participants and stakeholders.
Tamara Vickers (Administrative Professional)
Ms. Vickers has been a legal administrative professional for the past 10 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of the West Indies. She has volunteered extensively with organizations that support youth development and is excited to be a founding member of the Youth Improvement Services board.
TeAndra Walton (Business Owner)
Ms. Walton is a seasoned accounting and tax professional who previously worked with the Mississippi Department of Revenue as an Auditor and Accountant. Among her many pursuits, she is currently the Owner of a tax and accounting business and is the Director of Operations for Gordon Medical Arts in Clinton, MS. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Jackson State University and is working towards a Master of Business Administration Degree at Belhaven University. Her extensive experience in accounting, internal controls, bookkeeping and auditing will assist with keeping our organization fully compliant with laws, regulations and ordinances.
Othneal Wilson (Education Management Professional)
Mr. Wilson has been an educator for the past 18 years and is currently a Director of Student Support Services in the federally funded Job Corps Program. Mr. Wilson's areas of expertise include outreach and admissions, residential management, recreation programming, health and wellness services, security and transportation, behavior management and education and training. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Education Degree from the University of the West Indies. He is strongly committed to empowering at-risk youth.
Andrew Breland (Licensed Professional Counselor)
Mr. Breland is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater in 2009 and a Master of Science in Counselor Education (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) from William Carey University in 2015. Andrew is passionate about working with at-risk youth and has extensive experience working with socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. He will use his knowledge, professional experience and community connections to help move the organization forward.
